Really feeling it!

May 13th, 2008 at 6:00 pm by runrskckass

I am starting to really feel like I am getting into shape. I am finding it easier to average my runs under 8 min a mile! Gotta love the feeling of the tide turning. I will still have up and down days, but it is nice to see the sun shining a bit now. Only 5 months to go until Chicago and I hope to be ready!

VERY VERY WINDY DAY 30-35MPH WINDS

May 11th, 2008 at 9:15 am by runrskckass

I was so excited that I was in KC today so I could actually run on some good running trails. I ran at Shawnee Mission Park. It was super windy, but I figured that running through the woods would block some wind compared to heading home to Carbondale and having nothing to block it. The run was fun and beautiful, I kept a very slow and steady pace. I was not trying to run this very hard or else I would defeat the purpose of my long run. I was happy I ran my 8 mile long run and was exhausted with a very sore right calve when I finished. I stretched and iced. I also had my dad rub my calves out pretty hard to break up the build up. It worked pretty well. When I was in the open parts of the trail the wind was murder! I just kept going and before you know it I was finished!! I ran a total of 23 miles for the week and am looking forward to doing 25 miles this next week. I am keeping my head strong and charging forward!

Easy run

I ran a bit slower on this day because I was helping my sister through part of her long run. She needed my help and encouragement to finish and so I did. It was a bit windy, but nothing to crazy, I felt great but just kept a pace with my sister.

Success is so sweet!

I finally hit under 8 minutes a mile for the first time in a long time!! I know to some of you that means nothing, but for me after having a kid and going through so many other things, this means a lot. I felt great during this run. I started out wanting to average 8 minutes a mile. I ran my first mile in 7:59, 2nd in 7:54, 3rd in 7:43, 4th in 7:54 and came home in 8:02 for my 5th mile. I would of hit faster in my 5th mile then 8:02, but I had to stop after I made it up this big hill to tie my shoe because it came undone and I was tripping on it, of course I did not cheat and do it during the hill I waited until I completed it! You can tell I just felt great in my 3rd mile although during my run I thought I was going to kill over and that is because I was picking up the pace! The 3rd mile could of been a bit slower so I could of ran the others faster, but oh well I felt good and needed this run. I know I am such a dork because I will track what I run for every mile on average and what I ran exactly each mile! Told you all that I am a big running nerd! Thanks for all the support guys. Lets just hope I keep having more good days!

Normally on runs I start out fast and slow down in the third and fourth miles because I cannot keep the pace I set out with. Last night I decided to start slower and make myself try and maintain a pace that was all the way around consistent. It pretty much worked, but I cannot control myself in the last mile I just get so excited to finish!! I started out with an 8:15 mile in the first, an 8:15 mile in the second, an 8:14 mile in the third, an 8:13 mile in the fourth and then I came home in a 8:03. So all went well, besides I would rather start out consistent and work my way into getting faster instead of blowing all my energy in the first two miles spend the 3rd and 4th miles trying to regain my strength while slowing down and then picking up in the last. What I did last night is what I would like to see in my marathon, consistency.

Felt horrible and lost motivation

May 1st, 2008 at 6:00 pm by runrskckass

I felt HORRIBLE. I was losing motivation during this run. I started thinking how impossible this marathon could be with work and my daughter. I mapped out all of my mileage from now until October 12th and I feel it could be impossible. I need to get out of this funk and be strong. Help!!!
